HOME CLUBMARK
The National Strategy
for Cricket
- Published in 2001 the National Strategy for Cricket
sets out the seven interdependent 'steps' that are critical to
the development of cricket from the playground to the Test arena.
- Cricket clubs play a crucial role in this ~ particularly
in the development of young players. A vibrant cricket club scene
is a vital ingredient in cricket development.
- Cricket clubs must be encouraged and nurtured to
be the best they can be and the National Strategy for Cricket
sets out a number of objectives to improve the standards at cricket
clubs.
- Cricket relies heavily on
the support of its army of volunteers and it is important that
they in turn are supported.
- The Clubmark scheme is therefore
seen as an important initiative designed to ensure clubs receive
the support they need to develop their junior sections'.
- Clubmark and cricket
The ECB is delighted to have the opportunity to work in partnership
with Sport England on this pioneering club accreditation scheme.
- Clubmark will be used to set the
standards for a network of cricket clubs providing a safe, effective,
child-friendly programme for their juniors.
- Currently the ECS is testing the concept of its own accreditation
scheme of which Clubmark will form the foundation. Clubmark will
provide the core standards that all clubs will be supported to
achieve.
- In addition, it is anticipated clubs will be further recognised
where they demonstrate one of more of the following:
- A programme with schools and other
community groups
- A coaching and competition programme
- A player development programme for
talented players.
- Promotion and support
Through our network of County Boards, Cricket Development Officers
(CD0s) and
Sports Partnerships, support and advice will be available to
clubs involved in the scheme.
- It is anticipated that a full range of benefits will be available
to help develop, promote and sustain a vibrant club development
programme.
- CD0s will advise clubs if they are in a position to further
develop to one of the three ECB development club categories.
- Gaining Clubmark accreditation
To gain Clubmark accreditation you will be required to provide
material for a Clubmark assessment file.
- Your CDO will explain the process to you. Once completed
the file should be returned to your CDO for assessment.
- Clubs that achieve Clubmark accreditation will receive notification
from Sport England
Tomorrow Part 3 - The accreditation
criteria as it is relevant to youth sections of Sussex cricket
