COACH LICENCE SCHEME

FROM STEVE PEYMAN, SUSSEX CCC DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Answer: All the information we have requested on your application forms is the same that will be required for an ECB Licence, there may be some slight alteration as a result of our feedback.

Answer: The scheme is optional, so NO you do not have to gain a licence. It will not be held against any coach if they do not wish to apply for a licence. The more coaches involved the better, as it will give a more accurate assessment of the scheme.

The aim of the scheme is to give due recognition to a coach's commitment to personal development and will create a momentum for self-improvement amongst the coach population. If you feel that you fall into this category and have not already sent in your application, we would very much welcome it.

The scheme will also offer coaches, potential employees of coaches, parents and guardians, as well as cricketers, to recognise immediately that a coach is: Appropriately qualified, has undertaken Child Protection and First Aid training, is involved in a structural coach education programme and is an active coach.

Answer: As you can see from the packages offered part of the fee goes towards the content and also administration costs. Sussex CCC will also be offering various courses to licensed coaches in the New Year in areas such as: Junior Club Management, Accessing Funding for your Club, Coach Refresher Seminars etc.

Answer: Firstly, we are not expecting you to become doctors and child psychiatrists. The basic level of training is all that is required to give you some knowledge on how to handle a situation, if it were to arise. In your original information "Coaching Matters" was included, which identified Child Protection Courses available in Sussex. First Aid Qualifications can be obtained through the St. John's Ambulance Service, who have recommended a four hour Emergency First Aid Courses.

I have been in contact with St. John's and they advised me that with sufficient numbers we could run courses ourselves, which I am more than prepared to do, alternatively you can contact St. John's Ambulance Service on 01903 231407 and book on to a pre arranged course. The National Coaching Foundation (Good Practice & Child Protection) will also allow us to organise courses locally on demand.

The courses that we are able to organise locally are as follows:

If you would like me to organise one of the above course please contact me on 01273 827104 or 07768 552679 and register your interest. If Sufficient SACC Members support these courses, the Association will consider subsidising the cost, which will reduce the course fees.

Answer: You do not need to gain you next National Coaching Scheme qualification unless you have the ambition to do so. Attendance at the annually run Coaches Conference Day organised by the Sussex Coaches Association is more than adequate.

The ECB is in the process of completing its new programme of NCS courses, which you may have seen in the ACC annual publication, if you are a member.

These courses will allow a coach to continue personal development at whatever level they want to aspire to.

I am sure there are many more questions that people would like to ask and I would very much like to hear them, either direct from yourself or through your district representative.

Please remember that applications can be submitted if you have not yet attended First Aid and Child Protection Courses. The scheme requires you to gain such certificates within 6 months of your application being approved.

I look forward to receiving your application, if I have not already.

Steve Peyman
Cricket Development Officer, Sussex CCC & SCB.
