HOME NEW GROUND
BLACKSTONE CRICKET
CLUB - new ground for Sussex youth
- Today I went back to the ground at Blackstone to have one
final look before serious ground work begins
- I played cricket for Blackstone CC with the Club Founder
" old Mr Allen" in the
1950s
- Coming home from boarding school, and later from National
Service in the Royal Air Force, I well remember him fielding
mid off both ends and choosing to bat number 4
- His GREAT GRANDSON was a triallist
for a County squad team this season!!
- We have not been reporting on the progress for the new ground
in recent months
- All efforts have continued but with little publicity
- The fund raising has continued and the decision was made
to start work on the ground
- This week machines have been at the ground grouting out hedges
- The hedges along the west and southern sides remain but the
northern hedge has been removed to enable an extension to the
present ground to take place
- The grass is beginning to show evidence of returning to a
natural state and fairly soon the ground will be cleared and
levelled prior to re-seeding.
- The old pavilion and club room together with the mower shed
remain but they will soon go and be replaced with a new pavilion
complex.
- A brief slideshow of 8 photos of the present state of the
ground can be seen by clicking on Blackstone
Cricket Club
- I intend to build up a photographic series following the
progress in the development of the ground.
