The objective of the programme
is to support the young player's development as a cricketer of
some potential. The programme will be wide and varied, hopefully
enjoyable, but also be intense and challenging.
Each course will contain some element of the following
:
Guest session - invited, high profile, guest coaches
will deliver a session based upon their own coaching principles.
Physical / Athletic Development session - practical sessions designed
to emphasise and educate on the importance of physical fitness
and athletic development.
Team based activity - practical, competitive challenges to encourage
development of team skills
Mental toughness training - delivered and monitored through practical
cricket activity.
Specialist sessions - based on the player's main skill, increasing
understanding of their own methods and tactical advice.
Fielding session - practical session designed to improve all round
fielding skills.
'Open nets' - practical cricket performance with full planning,
review and evaluation.
In addition, the following will also be included during
the winter period :
1:1 Review - on two occasions the player will undertake
a formal review of his performance and will receive a written
report, a copy of which will also be sent to you.
Parent Education sessions - at 4 of the courses, brief presentations
will be made to parents on issues relating to their son's cricketing
development.
The courses will feature various specialist coaches
being brought in to support the programme during the winter along
with a management team of myself as Head Coach and Spin Bowling
Coach, John Weitzel (Manager), Karen Giles (Physiotherapist),
Mark Bawden (Sports Psychologist) and Rob Harley (Physiologist).
The specialist coaches include Ottis Gibson (Pace Bowling), Geoff
Cook (Batting), Bruce French (Wicketkeeping) and Trevor Penney
(Fielding).
At the end of the winter programme, there will be a
preparation programme consisting of an outdoor cricket activity
during the Whitsun half term (31st May - 2 June 2005), followed
by a competitive match play period, likely to be 2 weeks in the
summer holidays (1-14 August 2005). All dates will be confirmed
in due course.
Whilst the selectors have chosen a squad of 16 boys,
they will be adding boys to the squad over the winter period and,
likewise, may ask boys to step down from the squad if it is felt
appropriate. Similarly, selection for the winter programme is
no guarantee of selection for the summer squad.
