| OCTOBER 2005 Matthew has flown to Pakistan as part of the England Test squad- exactly 5 years after he started his professional career with Sussex CCC | |
| 05/07/05 In the summer of 1997 Matthew Prior was playing in the Sussex Under 15 side. Now 8 years later he has been selected for the England One day squad to play in the series versus Australia | |
| Please note - support for Matthew is to
acknowledge his personal achievement in the game of cricket.
The comments should be read in that context and should not be
seen to be either supportive of or against a cricket tour of
Zimbabwe. He has done it. Matthew Prior has been selected for ENGLAND and WALES to play versus Zimbabwe. The system works. Just 4 years ago in September 2000 this site began to publicly acknowledge the potential of a young cricketer. We have heaped praise on his performances and in just 4 short seasons he has been selected to play for England and Wales. The following two extracts reflect the type of headline he was given on his own page . It got to the stage where once he had achieved selection for Sussex CCC; been capped; scored his first century that writing about his cricketing activities became repetitive. Now he has moved up another level. MATTHEW'S NEW YEAR 2001 BEGINS If visible determination and an aggressive attitude towards playing the game of cricket are important aspects for success in the game of professional cricket then Matthew has moved off the bottom rung of the ladder July 2004 - just 2 months ago This page -Matthew Prior-was created - September 2000- to follow a young Sussex cricketer as he joined the County ranks. He is now a valued member of the Club and has recently scored his first hundred in one day cricket. It is not intended to update the information until Matthew is called up for the England squad. The material will remain as a guide to aspiring young cricketers wishing to join a County Club. So today - September 28th - all other news is forgotten. Matthew's rise has more of less coincided with the England and Wales Cricket Board's stated intention to " Develop cricket from the playground to the Test Arena" Rodney Marsh, The ECB Academy Director, has been a very good influence on the nation's cricket. One suspects that his hand is very much on Matthew's selection. Peter Moores, Sussex CCC coach, has been a very good influence on Sussex youth cricket and on Matthew in particular. Well done, Matthew. In 1996 we selected you to play for the England Under 14 side. You are now the 2nd player from that squad to be selected for the full side. Ian Bell , Warwickshire, made it just before you. In 2001 you played your first match for Sussex CCC. In 2004 you are selected for England- dreams are made of this. "Give me the child and I will show you the man" |
