MATTHEW PROGESSES
FROM LOCAL CLUB CRICKETER TO THE PROFESSIONAL STAGE
- Attending Dorothy Stringer School, Brighton it was only natural
for Matthew to join the Club - ST.MATTHIAS
C.C. which used some of the school's facilities in the evenings
and at the weekends
- He played for the Club in the Brighton Evening league which
provided a fixture list of short 20 over evening matches.
- He also represented the Club in longer matches played in
August organised by the Sussex Junior Cricket Festival.
- The Festival - unique to the County of Sussex - was introduced
in 1966 and provides week long competitions at ages 11 to 16
- Matthew joined East Grinstead
CC when it opened its new facilities in Saint Hill Road but later
joined Brighton and Hove Cricket Club with the intention of playing
in the Sussex County League.
- Running parallel with his Club cricket was a County representative
fixture list

Middlesex were beaten by 10 wickets being totally outplayed by
Matthew Prior and Krishana Singh
who scored 129 in 23 overs
Tom Dowdall and Matthew Prior undertook
the wicket keeping duties . Both performed well.

102 as Sussex reached 227 for 3.
In reply Essex were bowled out for 147
MATTHEW WAS SELECTED TO PLAY FOR THE SOUTH
OF ENGLAND
in the National Festival at Taunton.
Opening the batting he scored 16 v Midlands but was unwell for
most of the time.

on a sound start.

Matthew does not appear in the averages. Reference

Independent Schools not making their players available for County
matches
and a plea for the Sussex County Board to implement a system
that allows
players to be available for the highest level of cricket.

He was further selected to play
for the ENGLAND UNDER 15 SIDE
Under 16 1999 Matthew plays far less Sussex representative cricket
because
of his commitment to College cricket and his selection at National
level.
Under 17 1999
Although Matthew appears in the team line up he does not appear
in the averages.
