HOME MATTHEW PRIOR
- MATTHEW will be reporting in
to the County Ground on Monday March 19th together with the other
professional players of Sussex CCC.
- He has completed a series of nets and training sessions in
the same manner as he started - full of determination to succeed.
- One can pose the question whether he would have gained more
from a trip abroad to play in foreign climes.
- In his situation it may not have made a great deal of difference.
He has had the benefit of local mentoring and the County Club
have certainly been able to guide him in their ways.
- At the beginning of next season he will - without doubt -
be required to travel overseas and hopefully be part of a set
up similar to that administered by Paul Terry ex-Hampshire CCC
in South Africa where he provides individual coaching and tuition
in addition to the visitor playing for a strong local Club.
- The essential element here is the one to one coaching which
prevails in many areas of the cricketing world.
- In England we tend to wait until about the age of 18 before
honing the young pro. In other countries - where child hood may
be shorter - 14 and 15 year olds are receiving one to one coaching
and developing their skills at least 3 years earlier than our
youngsters.
- SUSSEX TOUR TO GRENADA
- In order to follow the tour Bruce Talbot,
Evening Argus, who is accompanying Sussex CCC, has given permission
to take copy from his reports.
- He hopes to be filing match reports and news from the tour
on a daily basis although this depends to some extent on how
good the communications are in Grenada.
- He also hopes that Matthew will get plenty of opportunities
and he is looking forward to seeing him in action.
