HOME MATTHEW PRIOR
Matthew scores
102 not out v Hampshire in the County Championship
- We thought that June would be the month for his first ton
but it has come in September.
- There were times in August when it appeared to be going wrong
but a little rest and a return made in a high scoring game has
provided Matthew with the ideal opportunity
- Batting at number 7 - a position which eventually could be
low for him - he came to the crease when the score was already
460 for 5 and he was still batting at the declaration with Sussex
631 for 6.
- In terms of Sussex youth cricket transference to the professional
ranks Matthew's success in the past two years has been unusual.
- One has to go back to the likes of Martin Speight and Neil
Lenham to recognise potential converted to stability in the professional
game.
- There remains a lot of hard work in the future but today
was a milestone in his life.
