HOME MATTHEW
PRIOR
Matthew scores exactly
100 v Warwickshire CCC
- Matthew is maintaining a batting average of 35 plus and this
century will only add to his confidence
- Initially the Matthew Prior page was established for 2 reasons
-
- 1. Because it was obvious that Matthew
was one of our own youngsters who clearly was going to make it
in the professional ranks
- 2. To follow a Sussex youngster
and to observe how the County Club would respond to his ambitions.
- That there has been very little comment on Matthew on this
site for a year is a reflection of how well the Club has handled
- in our opinion- his cricketing development
- Behind the scenes one hears the chat that he is not as good
as Tim Ambrose in the pure wicket keeping sense
- Again from the point of view of an onlooker - Sussex CCC
have handled both keepers very well by playing and supporting
both of them.
- Thus Tim also has an average in the 30s and is regularly
making 50s and keeping well.
- Between them - and with "young" Robin Martin Jenkins
firing in some good innings- the youth are making very good progress.
- With Tony Cottey nearing the end of his contract there could
well be presure to bring in a batsman of proven class.
- There is no need - Sussex CCC have recognised the talent
in their ranks and are developing batsmen of class.
