when he became available with some hard hit innings."
SOUTH OF ENGLAND UNDER 14 TRIAL
Robin attended the trial with his father Christopher, who sat
quietly typing a report on the boundary edge. Robin reached an
aerial 100 and left the field - retired - to ensure his selection
for the Under 14 Festival in Warwickshire.
In his first match he made 16 out of a total of 194 against the
West. When the West batted their star - Marcus Trescothick - was run out for 0. Robin took 1 for 29 off 7 overs.
West scored 161 for 8 and the match was drawn.
In the second match versus the Midlands The South again batted
first and Robin scored 20 and did not bowl as the Midlands made
111 for 5. In the final game against the North the South batted
first and made 166 for 7 declared with Robin making 5 runs. In
the North reply Robin bowled 9 overs for 34 runs without taking
a wicket.
Robin had tasted Regional cricket but was not selected for the
England side which we selected for the first time with the aid
of David Lloyd., National Coach.

The Under 15 festival was badly rained
affected but Robin did sufficently well to be selected to play
for the President's X1 versus the England Under 15 side. It was
in this match that he made his name on the National stage. With
his mother in the crowd he took full advantage of a short leg
side boundary on the Worcestershire CCC ground and made a high
score. Both parents had now seen Robin have a good innings in
an important stage of his young career. Other players of note
who played at the Festival in 1991 and are on the County circuit
with Robin in 2000 were:
KEVIN INNES NORTHANTS
VIKRAM SOLANKI WORCESTERSHIRE
ALEX MORRIS HAMPSHIRE
BARRY HYAM ESSEX

scene to study at the University of Durham - a strong haven for
budding cricketers. On completion of his degree he joined Sussex
